At LBR Automotives we offer certified MOT testing for class 4 vehicles. Options of pre & post-MOT repair work are available if required. To book your vehicle MOT or to discuss repair options please do not hesitate to get in touch today.
Don't forget, your can book in your vehicle MOT up to one month prior to expiry and still retain the longer expiry date (Minus one day). This allows ample repir time should your vehicle require remedial repairs.
What Is Checked?
During an MOT the following is checked to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy:
Vehicle Identification
- Registration plate: Checked for condition, legibility, and correct format.
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): Must be present and legible on vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980.
Body & Structure
- Bodywork: Checked for excessive corrosion or damage that may affect safety.
- Doors/bonnet/boot: Must open and close securely.
- Towbars: Inspected for damage or insecurity.
Lights
- Headlights, indicators, brake lights, sidelights, rear lights: All must be functional, correctly aligned, and of the correct colour.
- Number plate lights: Must illuminate the rear plate.
- Warning lights: Checked for proper function (e.g., ABS, airbags).
Glass & Mirrors
- Windscreen: Checked for cracks or chips in the driver’s line of sight.
- Wipers & washers: Must clear the windscreen effectively.
- Mirrors: Required number, secure, and provide good visibility.
Tyres & Wheels
- Tread depth: Minimum 1.6mm across the central ¾ of the tyre.
- Condition: Checked for damage, bulges, or exposure of cords.
- Wheel nuts: Must be secure.
Brakes
- Performance: Measured on a roller brake tester for balance and efficiency.
- Condition: Pads, discs, and cables inspected for wear or damage.
- Handbrake: Must hold the vehicle stationary.
Emissions & Exhaust
- Exhaust system: Must be secure, without leaks, and not too noisy.
- Emissions: Tested to ensure they meet the vehicle's age/type standard.
Steering & Suspension
- Steering wheel & column: Checked for wear or play.
- Power steering: Must operate correctly.
- Suspension: Shock absorbers, springs, and joints checked for wear or damage.
Seatbelts & Seats
- Seatbelts: Checked for damage, correct operation, and anchorage security.
- Seats: Front seats must be secure and adjustable.
Electrical Systems
- Battery: Must be secure and not leaking.
- Wiring: Checked for damage or unsecured cables.
- Horn: Must function correctly and be loud enough.
Driver Controls & Visibility
- Speedometer: Must be fitted and legible (illumination not required).
- Steering lock: If fitted, must engage.
- View to front: No obstructions such as stickers or air fresheners in the driver’s line of sight.
Fuel System
- Leaks: Checked for leaks.
- Fuel cap: Must seal properly and be secure.
Please note the condition of the engine, gearbox & clutch do not form part of an MOT.
Require Repairs?
If you are unsure your vehicle would pass an MOT please be sure to book in a pre-mot check with us, we can then repair your vehicle prior to testing taking place.
Following any MOT failiures we are also able to discuss and book in the required repairs with yourself, if this is carried out within 10 working days of the initial failiure date and not removed from the premises a partial retest can be performed free of charge.
